This Double Bill Concert, the first of the Tribute to the Legends Series, will feature award winning Jazz pianist Nduduzo Makhathini and South Africa’s finest contemporary singer Thandiswa Mazwai.
Nduduzo Makhathini and Thandiswa Mazwai will present a repertoire that pays tribute to legends of South African Jazz such as Zim Ngqawana, Miriam Makeba, Letta Mbulu, Bheki Mseleku and Busi Mhlongo. The concert will be a reflective musical journey of South African Jazz and the extent to which the artists on the line-up have been inspired by the artists to who they will be paying tribute.
Nduduzo Makhathini is a renowned South African Jazz Pianist that has performed with Zim Ngqawana and also highly inspired by the stylistics of Bheki Mseleku, one of South Africa’s most outstanding Jazz Pianists. He is well poised to present a memorable and quality tribute to these legendary South African Jazz Giants. He has recently released an album titled “Letters from the Underworld”.
Born in the year of the Soweto uprising and with the soul of a rebel, multi-awarded Thandiswa Mazwai’s music travel through the village into the ghetto and raises the roof in the city. Her compositions today include traditional Xhosa rhythms, mbaqnga, reggae, kwaito, funk and jazz. Through this, Thandiswa straddles the urban and the rural, effortlessly melding the traditional with the modern.
