JAZZ ON THE LAKE
Jazz on the Lake goes virtual, once again bringing you great music. The concert will feature guest performances from award winning South Africa artists Shekhinah, Ami Faku and Zoë Modiga, Andile Yenana, Thandi Ntuli, Blaq Diamond and Mandisi Dyantyis. The House Band will consist of multi talented jazz musicians including Thandi Ntuli and Lindi Ngonelo (keyboards), Siphiwe Shiburi (drums), Sisonke Xonti (sax), Wayne Bosch (guitar), Sthembiso Bhengu (trumpet) and Sibusiso Sibanyoni (bass), directed by acclaimed pianist Avzal Ismail.

URBAN CLASH COMEDY
Jefferson Tshabalala, a young Standard Bank award winner will direct 7 young theatre artists in this comedy /satirical theatre script which will look at the state of the nation and the world. This show will also feature from contemporary urban music from Hip Hop, reggae, Amapiano, Kwaito to House. Artists such as hip hop artist Stilo Magolide and R&B singer and actress Lucille Slade will participate in this event.

Cultural Policy Induction Workshop seeks to foster and enrich national consciousness amongst young leaders on legislative framework and empower practitioners by making sure that theatre reflects on the present situation of living in the era of Covid-19. An initial three-day induction into cultural policy will introduce participants to policy: purpose, legitimacy, implementation; key policy-making institutions locally, regionally and continentally; processes of policy-making; South African cultural policies; African cultural policy emphases and processes; and international cultural policy emphases and processes. After the initial workshop, participants will join a monthly seminar on cultural policy for the following 12 months.

PRESERVING ARTS, HERITAGE AND CULTURE WITH BILLY MONAMA

A workshop on “Preserving Arts, Heritage and the Culture of Music” will be facilitated by Billy Monama a guitarist, composer and band leader. His musical journey comprises of performances at a number of important events as a band leader such as the; Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival, Collaborative performance with US saxophonist Dave Koz, Collaboration with Denise Jannah – Singer, Actor & Educator (Netherlands), Promusica Theatre’s Summer Jazz & Blues Weekend, Cape Town International Jazz Festival and many more others.
The workshop, streamed on 28 September, will focus on South African heritage music styles such as Marabi, African Jazz, Kwela, Mbaqanga, Maskanda, as well as the basics of music business.

URBAN CLASH BANDS
A concert featuring a diverse and exciting selection of hip and original bands including pop, blues, rock, Afropop to indie sounds on Friday 16 October, 8-9.30pm.
Some of the artists featured at Urban Clash Bands include SA leading vocalist Msaki, Andre Kriel from Black Cat Bones, Shameless, Nathi, three young women artists (Sanda, Thalitha, and Basetsana) who participated in Prince KB’s Covid project - #ProjectHOPE -, Stephen Jonathan and Wolfgang Marrow, Femi Koya and Siya Makuzeni, Qaba Nation, reggae band Fayah Ises and many more. Urban Clash Bands will also pay tribute and feature South African legendary guitarist Bra Themba Mokoena.

"Going Back to the Truth of Space" reveals a journal of religion, a practice of ritual, and a struggle for restoration between Kitty Phetla and Nduduzo Makhathini as both artist and healer in this third and final concert in the series.

An interview / conversation between two experts within the film industry tackling topics like funding, health and safety act for location shoots, the future of South African film making, using digital platforms for expansion and Netflix vs traditional TV media.

Vuka Machel
(a revolutionary comedy)
Vuka Machel is a two-hander “Revolutionary Comedy” production written and directed by Mncedisi Shabangu, a seasoned writer, Director, and Actor in Theatre, Television, and Movies. Vuka Machel seeks to tell the story of the great FRELIMO liberation Warrior and former President of Mozambique, Samora Moises Machel.

Current Affairs Virtual Theatre Festival
ALEXANDRA ARTS ACADEMY
An initiative of the Alex Arts Academy, the Current Affairs Virtual Theatre Festival includes ten one hander productions. The purpose of this festival is to allow young people to tell their Covid-19 stories and how the pandemic affected their personal lives and their families.

FNB Art Joburg Online will be an online platform for galleries to share their work with any collector in the world, gain valuable exposure to the international markets and continue to make much needed sales revenue later in the year, as South Africa will be entering the eighth month of lockdown come September. The fair will be enhanced with virtual exhibition content such as video, augmented reality and virtual reality.

Clap and tap choirs were required to submit their music videos online. The Top 14 choirs (2 per Region) perform at the finale to win a prize. Communities are encouraged to vote for their favourite gospel group.

YONELA MNANA AND VIVACIOUS SOUNDS
Yonela Mnana a blind jazz scholar, a recording artist, and jazz pianist who teaches and composes music. He is the current recipient of the Arts Research In Africa (Ara) bursary where he is pursuing his PhD degree in South African Solo Jazz Pianism.
He will present works titled Regenesis: A New Beginning, featuring Vivacious Sounds.
Saturday 12 December
SA HIP HOP AWARDS
The 9th Annual South African Hip Hop Awards returns with a new theme: “The New World Order”. The theme idea comes after looking at what has been happening in the last year around the world due to the pandemic.
For the first time since its inception, the SA Hip Hop Awards will collaborate with the City of Joburg. A representative from the City will present the Ubuntu activism category award, which is an award about community building. The awards will be televised on 12 December 2020 at SABC 1 at 9 PM.

CLASH OF THE REGIONS
Hip hop, kwaito and poets will be required to submit their recordings online for a chance to be chosen as one of the Top 21 performers (3 per Region) to perform at the finale to win a prize. Communities in the different regions will be encouraged to vote for their favourite.
